We added a new family member to our house tonight. Technically he is not here yet, but he will be here in a week and a half. Yes I know we just lost Duncan and nothing will ever replace our silly crazy Duncan dog, but we found another dog that we hope to love just and will love us just as much as our last crazy animal. Right now we have settled on the name Sebastian, after Sebastian Vettel (a Formula 1 race car driver). Technically we don't have the dog, we paid for it, but as we drove home from looking at the dog and seeing if it would be a fit with our family, we were discussing names. We came up with Frasier (which is what I wanted for Duncan, but Duncan just seemed to fit our crazy dog). Brent likes the idea of Who for the dog's name, since our snakes are named Guess and What. We talked about a few other names, but I can't remember what they were at this time, Sebastian just sort of seems to fit. Oh, Enzo was the other (after Enzo Ferrari). Sort of a car theme going on. Anyway, the dog is a mix of black lab and llewellin. The dog is black with three white "socks" on the paws and white on the belly. The mom and dad were not as big as Duncan, so there is a pretty good chance that this dog will be smaller.
Garrett said to me tonight, "The first thing I am going to do with the dog, when we get him, is take him on a walk." I said, "You know, you will most likely be carrying him." Garrett, "I know, I will let him walk as long as he can and then I will pick him up and wrap him in a blanket to keep him warm and walk with him."
I said, "You have missed having your walking buddy, huh?"
Garrett, "Yeah."
I think this dog will be good for us. A good way to heal. Nothing will ever replace Duncan but we sure hope to make new crazy memories with our new friend and family member.
Oh....and as I was talking to my brother tonight telling him we are once again dog owners, I told him how we went to see the puppies and play with them for a while - more like an hour. We held the puppies most of the time and as we were leaving we put the puppies - including the one we are buying into a kiddie pool. As we walked away we heard a thud. We stopped, looked back and here comes our new little puppy - chasing after us. He wanted to go home to his new house. My brother told me that even though we pick out a dog he is a firm believer that the dog picks us out. I think that is true. We had a hard time choosing between the two dogs they had left, they were both really cute and each had a good temperament and disposition. ; it really was a toss up. But after watching our new dog jump out of the pool and chase after us I think we made an excellent choice.
(pictures to come once we have him home)
