The kids and I were watching Evan Almighty (yes we have seen the movie before) but I heard this quote and I remembered how much I liked it the first time I heard it. To set it up, this quote is God talking to Evan and he says, "Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?"
I know for me, I pray for patience and sometimes I expect to be more patient, when in reality it does not work that way. We are given the opportunities to be more patient. It is up to us to act upon them. Along with being closer to family, courage, or whatever it is we may ask for. We have to act upon those opportunities that God provides for us.
Okay...that's all. I had to put the quote on here and the reminder (the following words) to remind me that it is up to me. Anyway, since today is technically Halloween...Happy Halloween!

Yeah, I tend to forget that, too. I especially like the family part.
Very True - I have seen that movie but hadn't remembered that qoute! Sure makes me think about how far I have to go in order to channel my inner patience. I seem to lack that virtue most days. Thanks for the gentle reminder! :)
Love that quote from that movie! So true...that's why I NEVER pray for patience! Haha!
